Yesterday at work, I found a bag of candy and a note saying that I had been "boo'd". I was given 24 hours to "boo" two other people by leaving a treat and a copy of the same note.
All in secret, of course. It's like a cross between May Day treats and Secret Santa-- but with Halloween flair.
So naturally, I went to Pinterest to find inspiration for what treat to make my unsuspecting "boo" victims. Which led me to Picky Palate's Oreo Cheeseacke Pretzel Bites.
(If you've never checked out her food blog before, I highly recommend it. But don't go there if you're hungry. That would be torture.)
I've made oreo truffles many times before-- always a big hit. But I've never thought to add pretzels like Jenny did. So smart.
These are really easy to put together.
- 8 oz. cream cheese
- 18 oz. package of oreos
- bag of chocolate chips
- pretzel squares (I used about 1/3 of a bag)
- sprinkles (optional, but recommended)
Makes about 50
Ok, let's make some magic!
Crush the oreos, then add the cream cheese.
Mix it up. You can use a spoon, but I used my hands to expedite the process. You'll end up with a "dough" that's slightly sticky.
Roll dough into balls. I used a 1/2 tablespoon measure to make a uniform size. You might need to make the balls a little bigger or smaller depending on the size of the pretzels being used.
Sandwich the balls between two pretzels. Press down gently to make sure you don't break the pretzels.
Melt some chocolate and dip the bites half way, then put them right side up. Add sprinkles.
Stick 'em in the refrigerator for a little bit to harden the chocolate.
And try not to eat them all. I must admit I've eaten a few.
For quality control purposes . . .
They passed the test. :)
I hope my two lucky "boo-ing" victims will enjoy. I did!
