31 Days of Fall Fun {Day 7}: Pottery Barn Without the Price Tag

Does anyone else drool over Pottery Barn catalogs like I do?

I've never bought anything from them, but I usually love their sense of style. I’m always searching for ideas from their pictures to incorporate in my home—except on the cheap.

Some day perhaps I’ll be able to afford to buy something of theirs, but until then I’ll continue “hacking” away!

Here are a few things that have caught my eye this Fall:

For some reason, I’m drawn to black crows for Halloween this year. I think it’s because they're creepy without crossing into the “ick” zone like many Halloween decorations do.

I think I can find a few of these birds at the dollar store. I like them perching above the door frame.

Aren't these silvery trays stunning?! I can’t get over all the textures in this picture. There are metallics, glass, grasses, and twigs. Because it has a fairly neutral palette, it doesn’t seem overly busy. I would take away a little bit of the grass though—if I was being picky.

Note to self: Look for trays at thrift stores and garage sales.

This one is kind of a “duh” moment for me. Acorns—pretty in glass. Leaves—pretty in glass. Twigs—pretty in glass. But together? And layered? Genius!

Yup. Trays again. I think it's neat how they used them as informal frames for photos. I think the string would also look pretty around the trays without the pictures.

Makes you think, doesn’t it?

Happy Friday!

Do you remember the glass lamps I made for my bedroom? Yup, off to go apply my “layering” epiphany.

  1. oh my goodness, I love everything in this post! I was wondering how to decorate for halloween/fall without being too creepy, or sparkly, or harvest-y and this has been the perfect inspiration!

Love the inspirational pictures. I'll have to think what I can incorporate at my house.

  3. Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! I just bought half the black crows at the dollar store today. Can't wait to put them up!

I'd love to hear what you have to say. All comments that are kind, helpful, and relevant are welcome.
